The history of georgetown media

In 1997, after having worked for several years as a freelance video operator for TV commercials, and having produced short films and TV shows on the Hamburg Public Access Channel, Nicholas Feustel founded his first enterprise, Nicholas Feustel Videoproduction. This focused on creating commissioned productions of corporate films, and on digital post-production (Media100 / After Effects), with a particular focus on online and streaming video technology.

Two years later, freelance graphic designer, Hanns-Michael Rühle, joined Nicholas in his office, working under the label, Rühledesign. In 2000, the two friends moved into a bigger office just around the corner, still working as two separate companies sharing the premises.

They soon became aware of the synergies between their two areas of expertise – graphic design and video production – and in 2001 decided to merge their enterprises into one company: georgetown media (so called because it was located in the Bohemian district of Hamburg-St. Georg, sometimes lovingly called 'Georgetown' by local residents).

Since then georgetown media has worked for over 50 different clients from various areas of business. (You will find a detailed list of our clients and projects under 'Portfolio' and selections of our video work under 'Video Showcase' on this website.)

Over the years, ten interns, five freelancers, three regular employees and one dog were part of georgetown media. This is the time and place to say "Thank you" to you all!

After six years as business partners and eight years of working together, both Nicholas Feustel and Hanns-Michael Rühle felt it was time to move on and do other kinds of work. Since it became obvious that their goals were now different, they amicably and good-naturedly decided to go separate ways.

In 2007, Hanns-Michael Rühle left georgetown media and now runs his own business, Rühledesign, which focuses on delivering high-grade print-based, graphic design.

Nicholas Feustel and georgetown media moved to Berlin to experience its vibrant art and creative scene and to be inspired by the city's Zeitgeist.

Three years later, in February 2010, Nicholas and georgetown media moved back to Hamburg, for personal reasons.
